A COOKERY group has been heralded as ‘opening new doors’ within the lives of three Winscombe men.
Syd Martin, Derek Reynolds and Geoff Davies took part in the six-week Men Get Cooking course at Winscombe Community Centre, in Sandford Road.
The course taught men all about basic cooking skills, such as food preparation and safety.
Course tutor Jacquelene Seel said: “One of the delights of tutoring this course is seeing how cooking opens new doors for the men involved, such as sharing meals with pals or cooking with their grandchildren.
“During the six sessions, the men have gained enough confidence to see when different types of foods are cooked properly.
“They’ve also learned how to prepare a wide range of ingredients, allowing them to make traditional, healthy meals without risking food poisoning.
“As they cooked along together in a small, friendly group, we covered important food safety issues such as how to freeze and reheat dishes.
“They also learned about good value shopping when you’re cooking for one or two people.”
The next round of courses begins on June 19.
